What is the Recovery Period For a Tummy Tuck?

In people's minds, every surgical intervention is associated with hospitalization and long recovery periods. Fortunately, this is not the case for tummy tucks. In most of the cases, the patients do not need hospitalization. The recovery, on the other hand, is conditioned by the body of the patient.

After the surgery, the patient must be taken home and supervised for 24 to 48 hours. The plastic surgeon must find out if anything unusual happens within this period of time. The average period of time needed by the body to recover after the intervention is of one week. At the end of this period, the patient must visit the doctor again, in order to make sure that everything is fine. More than that, the patient is advised to visit the plastic surgeon once in a while. Hence, the visits are made after 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, respectively 3, 6, 12 months after the surgical intervention. During these visits the doctor will analyze the condition of the patient and the state of the scar. The scar does not represent something to worry about. At most, it measures 15 cm and tends to become less and less visible, in time.
